Project Luz

Growing up in a low-income immigrant family, I became familiar with the challenges and barriers that exist in the lives of people in marginalized communities, both in the U.S. and Mexico. This background inspired me to found Project Luz in 2007 – a collaborative effort that seeks to empower youth to share stories within their communities, utilizing audio and photojournalism techniques. Project Luz exists solely through the voluntary efforts of many journalists, artists, community members, students, and supporters.

Project Luz is a fiscally sponsored project of Independent Arts & Media, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit supporting people and projects that use media and the arts to build community and participation.
